If you read the Handbook of Statistics of Indian States 2020-21, published by the Reserve Bank of India, you may be surprised at the figures. The GDP per capita of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan are well below the Indian average. There has been hardly any growth in GDP in these states over the last ten years. The gap between progressive states and low GDP states is ominously increasing.

Every other development parameter in the report is similar. I analyze two such parameters – unemployment (Urban & Rural) and the length of highways built in the past year. Uttar Pradesh, along with Bihar, lags in each of them.

Who is responsible for this sad state of affairs? See this episode for answers. For the last 20 years, BJP has been in power in all these low-income states. Some striking data is presented in this episode.

Also, we give a break-up of the parties in power since 1951 in these five states. You will be surprised that the actual situation is opposite to the narrative being set by BJP.
