In an age where truth is under siege and deception wears a digital mask, deepfakes have emerged as psychological weapons—subtle, seductive, and dangerously convincing. These synthetic illusions don’t just distort reality; they infiltrate the very machinery of human cognition. When the brain repeatedly encounters and accepts deepfakes as truth, it doesn’t simply misjudge—it rewires. Memory, perception, and judgment begin to warp, creating a cognitive landscape where fiction feels more familiar than fact. This blog dives into the unsettling neuroscience behind our vulnerability to deepfakes—and what happens when the mind surrenders to manufactured lies.

Deepfakes are synthetic media created using artificial intelligence that can convincingly imitate real people or events, often raising ethical concerns and potential for misuse.
I will first describe how you could detect deepfakes. This should have come at the end of the blog, but I feel it’s extremely important to save oneself from the harm that this AI generated fake content is causing in our society. So, people who may not go through the entire blog would at least get an idea of how to detect the fake AI generated content.
How to Spot AI-Generated Fake Content:
- Famous personalities: The most common way to draw attention of the people is to use pictures or videos of famous people. When you see this your antennas should be out.
- Watch the face closely: Look for unnatural blinking, lip-sync issues, or odd facial movements.
- Listen carefully: AI voices may sound flat, emotionless, or robotic. Tone and pitch may feel “off.”
- Look at the background: Blurry, unstable, or inconsistent backgrounds often point to tampering.
- Check the source: If it’s not from a credible news outlet or verified account, be skeptical.
- Use tools: Platforms like Google, InVID, or Deepware Scanner can help verify suspicious videos.
- Trust your gut: If something feels too outrageous or “too perfect,” it probably is fake.
An example of Deepfake being widely circulated
I have also observed that propaganda deepfake videos are being spread all across the social media. These video’s use images and voices of world-famous personalities and generate fake narratives. The gullible public willingly laps it up; and since the content feeds their own beliefs, they keep forwarding. As far as the originator or creator goes – their job is well done. They get want they set out to do – get more believers, followers or ‘andhbhakts’.
So, if you really believe that the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Piers Morgan or Arnold Schwarzenegger have time to do audio blogs to praise India (rather illogically), then you should also know realize that the world is NOT so India centric. The channels promoting them are themselves rather unknown and mysterious.

Why This Matters:
Fake content wastes your time, spreads hate, and harms society. By blindly forwarding such clips, you could unknowingly contribute to real-world harm.
Let’s stay smart, stay alert, and help others do the same.
When in doubt, pause. Verify before you share.

What Happens to the Human Brain When It Keeps Believing Deepfake Propaganda?
- Erosion of Critical Thinking: Constant exposure to manipulative content rewires your brain. If a person repeatedly consumes believable fake media without questioning it, their ability to think critically and independently diminishes. They begin accepting falsehoods as truth — a dangerous cognitive shortcut.
- Confirmation Bias Gets Amplified: Deepfakes often reinforce pre-existing beliefs. Once someone wants something to be true, a fake video or audio can solidify it. This leads to an echo chamber effect, where a person only sees and believes what aligns with their opinions, regardless of reality.
- False Memory Formation: Studies show the brain can form false memories based on fabricated visuals. So when someone watches a deepfake of a politician saying something outrageous, they might remember it as having really happened, even after being told it’s fake.
- Reduced Trust in Reality: Ironically, as more deepfakes spread, people may stop believing anything, even real evidence. This causes what’s called “reality apathy” — where the public becomes numb to truth altogether. That’s just as dangerous as blind belief.
🤖 Could AI Eventually Dictate Human Thinking?
Yes — if unchecked. Here’s how that can happen:
- AI-Controlled Narrative Loops: If AI systems constantly feed people curated, believable, emotionally manipulative content, they can shape public opinion at scale. Think of it as propaganda — but smarter, faster, and more targeted.
- Mental Laziness Becomes the Norm: When people start relying on AI to tell them what to think — rather than how to think — mental autonomy fades. Over time, humans might lose the desire or ability to analyze, question, or resist manipulative content.
- Behavioral Conditioning: AI can use psychological techniques (like reinforcement learning) to condition behaviors — pushing people to act or vote in specific ways without realizing they’re being influenced.
- Total Loss of Narrative Control: In the worst-case scenario, governments or corporations using AI could manufacture public moods, votes, protests, and even wars — all by manipulating the information people consume.
🚨 In the Long Run: The Real Risk Is This…
If humans stop questioning what they see and hear, AI won’t need to “conquer” us.
We will have willingly surrendered our minds.

Thanks for the article.
I had been looking for a detailed write-up on the subject for sharing with my known ones who are still unaware of thr artificially created media content.
Very nicely explained Ajay. This is exactly what is happening through social media & WhatsApp university. AI is actually being used to watch create mind set & start building around it
