Uttar Pradesh’s development is far from what BJP would want us to believe. See how RBI, NITI Aayog, National Crimes Record Bureau counter the development narrative.
On January 23rd, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that UP’s development in the past five years is a benchmark for others. I am not sure of UP’s development but he sure has retained his sense of humor in these taxing times.
The same government’s Ministries and agencies yet have a different tale to tell us. The Reserve Bank of India says Akhilesh’s five years were better than BJP’s Yogi Adityanath’s. Niti Aayog reiterates that the health services in the state are last in the country. Niti Aayog also states that UP remains third in the multidimensional poverty index. More people have lost jobs in Uttar Pradesh from March to May 2020, barring Delhi. Not all of those laborers and workers have got back their jobs yet, and those who have, do not get paid the pre-pandemic salaries. With high inflation, they are further pushed below the poverty line.
The National Crimes Record Bureau tells us, that UP prisons are overflowing with almost twice as many prisoners that they are made for – the highest in the country. UP again tops in the number of convicts and undertrials.
The political class of BJP leaders is busy advertising the opposite.
In what way does UP serve as a benchmark?
