Non-resident Indians have been playing an important role in elections. But may a statements regarding NRIs coming from our politicians border ridicule, more so during the election seasons.

There have been accusations by many who say that non-resident Indians are returning to India due to ‘Modi magic’. It may be true that a handful of people may have returned to India to help out Narendra Modi. There is one odd instance of NRIs coming to India in 2019 for campaigning for the BJP.

Then there is another group, that says, that people are fleeing the country due to the situation in India created by BJP in power.

Migration of Indians began right after independence. You may be surprised to know that there was a period when more people came into India than were going out of the country.

Going abroad or returning back has much to do with one own social and financial issues, mostly personal. It also depends more on the foreign country’s migration policy.

In this episode, I analyze both these cases. The data points to some surprising aspects of the migration of Indians.
