When in doubt, look at history for guidance. You will find similar situations in the past too.
Here, I take a look at the General Election of 2004 as well as the Andhra Pradesh assembly election of the same year. In both the elections, the incumbent governments were voted out. That was despite the ‘not-so-bad’ performance of the NDA-1 government under the able leadership of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
N. Chandrababu Naidu performed even better in Andhra Pradesh. Yet both had to face miserable defeats. The reasons were very simple. But these politicians, somewhere, got lost in the glamour of the development story. Both of these leaders and their parties ignored the realities of the country and lost their respective elections, rather miserably to say the least.
Watch the full episode and you will then see how similar is the situation of today’s Uttar Pradesh. If a strong, ethical government of Naidu could be defeated in 2004, a ‘not-so-ethical’ and relatively poor performer, Yogi Adityanath can be voted out in 2022.
Remember, history does repeat itself.
