Modi’s Birthday Bash – Was it needed?

Prime Minister’s Office is entrusted with the unenviable task of making PM Modi’s Birthday a success and that too should become world news. A few world records set would be the icing on the cake.

This year the very obvious target was to set an unbeatable record of COVID Vaccination. With urban vaccination having reached a plateau the rural population was to be vaccinated at a frantic pace. As the data shows, a slow down in vaccination rates started 10 days ago and stockpiling and storage of vaccines were done. All to be used on the D-Day. Subtle instructions may have gone to opposition states. Vaccine supplies from manufacturers may have been regulated to meet the targets.

Eighty percent (80%) of the 2.3 Crores vaccines were done by half a dozen stated such as Bihar, Up, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Opposition ruled states such as Punjab, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand defined the expectations.

It is good to enthuse the public for doing good on specific national occasions. A Prime Minister’s birthday does quality as a special day. We all remember Pandit Nehru’s birthday as Children’s Day or Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday as Good Governance Day. There needs to a sincerity behind such celebrations. In recent years, such occasions are turning into self projections hinging on falsehoods. This is not in national interest.
